GENTING HIGHLANDS PLAYS HOST TO THE FIRST EVER INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL MART

Malaysia’s biggest tourism and travel trade convention converges international and local tourism industry players in one place for knowledge and information sharing

Pahang, 30 July 2019 – NCT Group of Companies (“NCT Group”), a Malaysian-owned premium property developer, in collaboration with EZ5 Entertainment Sdn. Bhd., The Federation of Malaysia Chinese Guilds Association (“FEMACGA”) and Grand Ion Majestic Hotel, have launched the inaugural Genting Highlands International Travel Mart 2019 (GHITM 2019). Located in one of Malaysia’s renowned hill-top tourist hotspot, Grand Ion D’elemen Hotel, Genting Highlands, the event is an integrated Business-to-Business (“B2B”) tourism and travel trade convention catering specially to tourism industry players and supported by the Malaysia, Pahang and Melaka Tourism Boards as well as Gloria Hotels and Resorts.

The launch of GHITM 2019 was officiated by Director-General of Tourism Malaysia Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Musa Yusof and witnessed by Melaka State EXCO for Tourism, Heritage and Culture Yang Berhormat Datuk Muhamad Jailani bin Khamis, Chairman of Organising Committee cum Founder and Group Managing Director of NCT Group Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Sri Yap Ngan Choy and Chief Executive Officer of Grand Ion D’elemen Hotel, Yang Berbahagia Datuk Indera Omar Naresh Mohan.

GHITM is the first ever tourism and travel trade convention focusing on B2B with specially curated B2B matching system to facilitate networking and create value propositions for both buyer and seller. The event brings together world-class hotels, and resorts as well as other travel and leisure service providers and stakeholders such as technology and equipment providers, travel agencies and destination management companies, tourist attractions and theme park operators in one place.

Not only that, the event also boasts participation from government tourism departments and bureaus, convention & exhibition bureaus from a host of countries such as Malaysia, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, India, Cambodia and Vietnam. Delegates from China makes up the lion’s share of buyers at 59% whereas delegates from Malaysia makes up 77% of the total of sellers.

GHITM 2019 aims to provide an effective B2B platform for all international tourism industry players to share and transfer knowledge and information on eight Key Tourism Industry Segments such as Dining, Lodging, Transportation, Entertainment, Travel, Shopping, Culture and Experience Technologies which includes Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality amongst other. The event also allows participants to form business relationships and subsequently to explore new business opportunities.

In order to further research and analyse the needs of the tourism industry players and stakeholders, GHITM 2019 also includes a forum session to highlight growing tourism and travel trends including Medical Tourism Market Outlook in Asia, The Significance of the MICE Market, The Evolution of Travel Agents and Innovative Travel Packages as well as Wedding & Golf Tourism.

According to statistics from Tourism Malaysia, the country’s economy was boosted with a total of RM84.1 billion in tourism receipts from the expenditure of 25.8 million tourists who visited Malaysia throughout 2018 with the lion’s share of tourist arrivals were from Singapore (10.6 million), followed by Indonesia (3.3 million) and China (2.9 million).

He further added, “I encourage all of the industry players and stakeholders present here today to assess the favourable environment and invest in the Malaysian travel market for the time is now. There are a variety of market segments to tap with your creative action plans. There are numerous opportunities in this room today for you to develop new markets of real value.”
