MEET TAIWAN Networking Event

3 min read

Promoting Incentive Travel to South East Asia Continued (Kuala Lumpur, 17 June 2019) Sponsored by Taiwan’s Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and organized by the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the MEET TAIWAN promotion program has been cultivating Southeast Asia’s incentive travel market for years. Today in Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur, MEET TAIWAN once again assembled local incentive travel suppliers, with theme “Jom Taiwan!”, to further promote Taiwan’s MICE environment and abundant incentive travel resources. In recent years, Taiwan has become a popular global destination, ranking 19th “most popular destination worth visiting in 2019” by Airbnb. Moreover, according to 2018 tourism statistics from Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau, visitors from Southeast Asia have increased to 2.43 million people, accounting for a 21.95% proportion of the total number of inbound visitors to Taiwan, increasing about 13.71% over 2017. Among the countries in Southeast Asia, Malaysia still remains in first place. Taiwan has been vigorously establishing a friendly environment for Muslims, paticularly attracting countries with large Muslim populations. The Global Muslim Travel Index 2019 ranks Taiwan as third among the most popular countries for Muslims to visit. MEET TAIWAN has been promoting the features of local incentive travel in Taiwan, which include customization, abundant and diverse travel resources, and much more. In 2018, MEET TAIWAN successfully assisted large enterprises such as Herbalife from Malaysia with coming to Taiwan for incentive travel as well as corporate meetings. To attract even more enterprises, related government units also offer incentives. In addition to MEET TAIWAN, the Tourism Bureau and local governments provide souvenirs, site inspections and administrative assistants, as well as subsidies for meetings and incentive tours that fit the criteria. Plus, to encourage overseas enterprises to bring more incentive tours to Taiwan, MEET TAIWAN established a Partner Package to build partnerships with suppliers from abroad. MEET TAIWAN offers different levels of incentives mostly based on the number of persons that are successfully brought to Taiwan.

In addition, the government has established a flexible visa policy for visitors from Southeast Asia. There are now visa-free services for countries such as Malaysia. Every year, MEET TAIWAN networking events attract nearly 100 media, enterprises and MICErelated agencies from each target country. This year, MEET TAIWAN has gathered suppliers representing travel agencies, venues, hotels, city governments, and public relations agencies for roadshows in Southeast Asian countries to introduce Taiwan’s excellent MICE environment via presentations, panel discussions and networking sessions, interacting face-to-face with local buyers. Through this event, MEET TAIWAN’s annual marketing campaign—Asia Super Team (AST) competition—will also be promoted. Since 2014, AST has attracted more than 10,000 companies throughout the Asian region to participate in the campaign. For 2019, AST is themed Enterprise Star and will partner with travel-related internet celebrities from eight countries who will serve as campaign ambassadors. The ambassadors will invite enterprises from their own countries to join the competition, experience Taiwan’s beautiful scenery and local cultures, and of course, to inspire their potential to become real Enterprise Stars! 「2019 Asia Super Team─ Enterprise Star」 First Stage: Online Registration (6/13–8/15) Enterprises from 8 countries in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, which are Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan and Korea, are invited to submit applications via AST’s official website. Second Stage: Reality Competition in Taiwan (10/14–10/18) One enterprise will be selected from each of the eight countries, with teams of 4 people to come to Taiwan. Out of eight teams, the final champions will receive an incentive tour to Taiwan valued at US$50,000. MEET TAIWAN welcomes enterprises from Malaysia to participate in the Asia Super Team competition!
