TOURISM SELANGOR STRENGTHENS ITS POSITION IN THE EUROPEAN TRAVEL MARKET AT THE WTM LONDON

SELANGOR, 9 November 2022 – Tourism Selangor, the Official Tourism Promotion Agency for the State of Selangor, has participated in the World Travel Market 2022 in London, held from 5th until 11th November 2022. Selangor’s delegation was headed by Mr. Azrul Shah bin Mohamad, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor alongside Selangor’s tourism officers.

Participation in the World Travel Market 2022 this year aims to further position Selangor on the global map, especially in the European countries. The European market is one of the key contributors to international travelling to the State of Selangor, pre-pandemic. However, with the lifting of the travel ban, Selangor is optimistic that the decline of international tourists to the state will showcase a positive momentum.

According to Mr. Azrul Shah Mohamad, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Selangor, the core narrative for this year’s promotional mission at the World Travel Market 2022, Tourism Selangor has focused on the industry niche of ‘eco-tourism’ to pique the interests of international delegates from all over the world during the event. One of the projects that stood out this year was the launch of the Gombak Hulu Langat (GHL) Geopark project, which consists of 13 geosites in the Gombak district and 7 geosites in the Hulu Langat district, spanning over 112,955 hectares. 

GHL Geopark project includes Kanching Eco Forest Park, Batu Caves. Sungai Tekala Eco Forest Park, Selayang Hot Spring and the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge. The project is vital to the preservation of the state’s natural resources. The people of Selangor benefit annually from this natural and cultural asset. Hence, it is imperative that it be protected for future generations.

During the World Travel Market 2022 this year, Tourism Selangor has also collaborated with the British Geology Survey and the National Geographic Traveller UK to promote the Gombak Hulu Langat Geopark Project for European demand and market. Moving forward, Tourism Selangor will focus on developing integrated tourism packages catered to market demands and respective travel audiences.

Selangor’s wide range of segmentation provides abundant tourism attractions, from eco-tourism and GHL Geopark, Food Tourism and Gastronomy Tourism, Cruise Tourism via Port Klang Cruise Terminal, Medical and Health Tourism (Medical & Wellness) and Cycling Tourism.Tourism Selangor also brought the “Splendid Selangor Take Me Anywhere” to London for the World Travel Market 2022. The campaign is geared towards positioning Selangor on the global map. The Splendid Selangor campaign is a significant effort to increase cooperation between the countries. The collaboration will involve prospective partnerships via FAM trips with media and travel agencies, cross-promotion series, roadshows, and sales missions
