8 min read

In compliance with Malaysia’s Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) until 31 August 2020, Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur has implemented “new normal” standard operating procedures (SOPs) for greater assurance, comfort and peace of mind among guests and staff.  For guests’ safety, several of Sunway Putra Hotel’s services have been adjusted and/or temporarily suspended until further notice.

IMPLEMENTATION OF #SUNWAYSAFESTAY

Just like the rest of Sunway Hotels & Resorts in Malaysia, Cambodia and Vietnam, Sunway Putra Hotel has implemented best practices and policies as “new norms” and enhanced its hygiene practices and protocols to combat Covid-19. The Sunway Safe Stay programme incorporates five (5) pillars of safety and hygiene comprising almost 30 protocols of heightened cleaning practices, assurance and standards of well-being.

Elaborating the Sunway Stay Safe programme, Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur Senior Group General Manager, Mr. Wilfred Yeo said: “We have always prioritised a stringent cleaning protocol at all our hotels to help ensure guests and colleagues’ comfort. While we are aware about how people will choose to travel henceforth has changed, for us the fundamentals of a safe and protected stay will not. This initiative includes highly visible and more frequent cleaning and different methods in the preparation of food and beverage, all reinforced by our new Sunway Stay Safe commitment, ultimately focusing on providing a holistic experience for our guests with an emphasis on their well-being.”

“These protocols were in place at the onset of the outbreak in early January 2020 and will continue at all Sunway Hotels & Resorts properties, adhering to new standards and SOPs issued by the Ministry of Health and World Health Organization. The programme builds on Sunway’s existing protocols and includes staff training and forming an advisory committee comprising medical experts from Sunway Medical Centre and industry professionals,” Yeo added.

All public areas of the hotel are cleaned more frequently as well using medical-grade disinfectants, with a focus on high touchpoint areas at the lobby, front desk counters, elevators including the buttons, door handles, handrails and public bathrooms. Anti-bacterial medical-grade hand sanitisers are also placed at more spots throughout the hotel’s premises for guests’ easy reach and frequent usage.

Upon arrival to the hotel, guests must follow the guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) enforced by the local government concerning contact-tracing and/or completing a self-declaration of their travel and health details. Social distancing will be observed at all times, with floor markers seen at queuing areas, including at the front desk, concierge and/or cashier counters. In addition, the furniture in public areas around the hotel has been rearranged for social distancing.

Partitions and/or social distancing arrangements at the hotel’s front desk provide more protection and comfort for guests and staff.  When guests enter the hotel, their luggage will be sanitised. Guests are encouraged to use the hotel’s contactless facilities including an express check-out to ease their departure and e-wallet payments where available at the front desk and food and beverage outlets.

Facilities temporarily closed and/or suspended during the RMCO include Sunway Putra Hotel’s all-day dining restaurant and the shuttle services.

The hotel’s 24-hour in-room dining menu selections provides guests with the flexibility of having a private meal in the comfort of their rooms or suites – one of the greatest pleasures at Sunway Putra Hotel. During this period, guests will be served with food orders in specially packed, single-use container with cutleries and delivered to their rooms, ensuring full compliance to hygiene and safety protocols.

Whether it is for a Sunday afternoon tea, a casual meeting or drinks with friends, guests will witness visible changes in the Atrium Lounge’s seating arrangements during the RMCO, adhering to social distancing. At the centre of the hotel’s sprawling lobby, a dome-shaped skylight over the Atrium Lounge lets in natural lighting, providing an upbeat atmosphere. During this period, the Atrium Lounge operates from 12.00pm to 8.00pm, with a menu of comfort foods and local favourites such as nasi lemak, mamak-style fried noodles and burgers, among others. Guests also enjoy freshly brewed gourmet coffees, specialty teas and light bites such as sandwiches, cakes, pastries and other refreshments prepared daily by the hotel’s chefs.

More dining options are available at Sunway Putra Mall as well. The mall operates daily from 10.00am to 10.00pm and is easily accessible from the hotel’s main lobby. Hotel guests will come across retail, entertainment and one of the largest dining options available with over 80 renowned food and beverage outlets and specialty restaurants amid a buzzing setting. Sunway Putra Mall features eight levels of retail attractions with over 300 international and local brands, alongside recreational facilities.

Meanwhile, the hotel’s fitness centre at level 11 strictly adheres to SOPs and the Sunway Stay Safe protocols, and the number of guests limited to three (3) persons per 45-minute session. Therefore, an advanced reservation is required. During the RMCO, the fitness centre operates daily from 7.00am to 9.00pm. After each session, the hotel’s trained personnel will sanitise all fitness equipment and surfaces. The fitness centre is closed daily from 12.00pm to 2.00pm and at 9.00pm for a major cleaning. Guest also see floor markers and arrows affixed at the fitness centre for social distancing. Disposable rubber gloves and hand towels will be provided too.

As part of the Sunway Safe Stay programme, all guest rooms in Sunway Putra Hotel are thoroughly cleaned, adhering to stringent sanitisation including the 10 high touchpoint hygiene protocol for surfaces such as electrical switch points and control panels, door handles and knobs, bathroom and hard surfaces, telephone and remote controls, bed and bedding, bath amenities, closet items, food and beverage cutleries and thermostats. After cleaning, a notification is placed at the room’s front door informing guests that the room had been properly sanitised. For guests’ comfort and ease of mind, a daily housekeeping will only be carried out upon their request. Guest room key cards are also disinfected before and after usage.

From 1 July 2020, the hosting of meetings and events will be permitted, adhering the new SOPs. The hotel has strongly advised event organisers (EOs) to take necessary precautions when organising events within the premises. To reduce the risk of community transmission and with the hotel’s safety and security personnel’s assistance, EOs must carry out a temperature screening; be vigilant especially concerning participants with respiratory symptoms such as cough or runny nose; to deny entry for unwell individuals; remind participants to not show up if they have a recent travel history to affected countries; and maintain a registration list of attendees.

Besides adhering to the Ministry of Health guidelines, the hotel also has packages for meetings and events that observe these guidelines including social distancing measurements, a capacity of not more than 250 participants and the relevant new set-up requirements.
