 SOCIAL MEDIA TOURISM CONFERENCE 2020’ IN CONJUNCTION WITH MEET IN MALAYSIA @ MALAYSIA BUSINESS EVENTS WEEK (MBEW) 2020

KUALA LUMPUR, 26 August 2020: In facing the new challenges in the tourism industry that are affected by COVID-19, the role of netizens, especially social media practitioners needs to be intensified, and to ensure Malaysia tourism industry remains competitive. Therefore, the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) in collaboration with Santai Travel magazine & Malaysia Tourism Council will organize the ‘SOCIAL MEDIA TOURISM CONFERENCE 2020’ on 26 August 2020 at Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur,.
The organizing of the Social Media Tourism Conference is seen as an immediate initiative to help rebuild the country’s domestic tourism industry creatively and innovatively.  The main objective of this program is to intensify the role of social media practitioners to help rebuild the country’s domestic tourism industry holistically.

The program hybrid event is organized in conjunction with Meet in Malaysia @ Malaysia Business Event Week (MBEW 2020) on the 26 August 2020 at Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur and  through  LIVE Facebook on  Santai Travel Channel Site. The program is jointly organized by the Malaysian Tourism Council (MTC) and Santai Travel Magazine and Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB). 

This event is in line with the government’s intention to promote a comprehensive domestic tourism campaign thus rebuilding the tourism industry in a new normal. Through the Social Media Tourism Conference, participants will be actively participating in the Social Media Forum lead by local celebrities such as Maya Karin, Dato’ Norman Abd Halim, Fara Fauzana and Kartini. Apart from that, a workshop entitled ‘Jom Jadi Influencer’ will also be conducted by Fara Fauzana and Kartini the famous radio and TV host. 

 According to YB Datuk  DR. Jeffrey G. Kitingan Deputy Minister Of Tourism, Arts  and Cultural Malaysia,  tourism industry whether Leisure or Business

is especially dependent on social media given the nature of picturesque images as a point to introduce a destination to the world.
“ Today’s session is a perfect demonstration that how in times of adversity, the power of unity and knowledge is what drives the resilience of an industry. Therefore,  I urge all business owners present to seize the opportunities by absorbing as much knowledge from the speakers present: Dato’ Norman, Kartini, Fara Fauzana and Maya Karin, who are not only talented celebrities, influential figures but also business owners themselves. I believe that they would be able to not only provide insightful information on how to build, manage and sustain your social media presence but more importantly, give you new perspectives to your

business,” said Datuk  DR. Jeffrey G. Kitingan.

According to Uzaidi Udanis, President of the Malaysian Tourism Council, this program is held to help rebuild the country’s tourism industry creatively to place Malaysia as the leading country in the tourism sector.

“I hope all parties, especially those who are active in the social media arena can trigger a new phenomenon in the world of this new norm in helping the country rebuild the tourism industry,” said Uzaidi Udanis.

“Recognising the power of social media, I believe that our esteemed medias, bloggers, and influencers will be able to spread the beauty of our country especially our tourism landmarks including MICE facilities such as integrated resorts, venues and hotels as a destination for local travellers,” said Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani Daud, Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB).
